‘WE PROMISE TO OUR CUSTOMERS TO BE ACTIVELY SUSTAINABLE IN PRODUCING HIGH-QUALITY PRODUCTS AND REMAIN PASSIONATE AT EVERY STEP IN ORDER TO MAKE CHANGES TO OUR ENVIRONMENT.’

You know that we are committed to crafting a high-quality rum, but we are just as dedicated to taking care of the environment and communities of people that make it possible.

We recognise a responsibility to reduce and limit our environmental impact of producing Aztec Gold Rum. We have a generational responsibility to source our ingredients with the plant and people in mind through sustainable partnerships.

We are proud to work with communities of people who are so passionate about the industry they work in. We want to help build each element of Aztec Gold Rum to be a part of a community that thrives for the same goals.

We aim to contribute to education through our work with PWCC as ‘Guardians Of The Rainforest’ in order to create opportunities for learning in the communities where we operate and their children.

Our community at the Panamanian distillery works hard to protect natural resources. They provide us with the raw material for the production Aztec Gold Rum, taking care of them to ensure their availability for future generations. This also includes responsible consumption and creating awareness amongst our audience.

Every day at the distillery in Panama about 15 hectares of sugar cane are cut; the cut must be oblique at the bottom, to allow regrowth and guarantee the quality of the cane for the following year. During the cutting process, the leaves, known as the “cogollo”, are removed, which will later be, together with the “bagasse”, the fuel for the steam boilers necessary for the processes that follow.

Approximately 60% of the cane that is currently harvested is “green”, despite the fact that the law requires only 5%. This allows a sustainable and responsible operation with the environment, by using biomass (bud and bagasse) as the main source of energy for production processes, replacing the use of fossil fuels.

Guardians Of The Rainforest works collaboratively with PWC to provide external funding to encourage the creation of sustainable business practices. This includes conserving water and energy, community conservation projects, recycling and treating wastes, hiring staff from the local community, paying them and providing training, and sourcing locally-produced products for restaurants and gift shops.

It is from this that we, as Guardians Of The Rainforest, want to enable PWC to continue to provide custom-made rainforest experiences inside these incredible regions attracting new responsible travellers.

We have developed partnerships that contribute to meeting vital funds for our work protecting biodiversity and helping impoverished communities in Panama. We contribute to our Education Programme that is focused on the education and cultural development of the Panamanian communities, through the development of basic life skills, English classes and technological resources.
